Fairthorne Group
About
In 2008 YMCA Fairthorne Group celebrated 60 years at Fairthorne Manor. Our name has changed during that time and the organisation has grown, but our ethos and determination to enhance the lives of young people has remained.
Our charity's mission
YMCA Fairthorne Group's mission is to champion and add value to young lives by providing experiences that challenge, enable and develop the individual.
This aim is at the heart of everything we do as an organisation.
A bit of history
George Williams founded the Young YMCA in 1844, after moving to London to learn the drapery trade. George Williams held prayer meetings and bible studies in his lodgings with other young drapery assistants who, like himself, shared the Christian faith. The meetings quickly expanded and the group recognised that they should not just serve young Christians but should work with all people and meet the needs of all those with whom they worked day by day.
The equilateral sides of the YMCA red triangle represent a balanced life in body, mind and spirit. Many variations of the traditional triangle exist but the these principles remains central to the philosophy of YMCA work.
YMCA Fairthorne Group (YMCAFG) is affiliated to YMCA England and exists to provide local communities with resources focused on child care , family togetherness. and community.
