Fairthorne Manor Summer Residential Camps

Run during the main weeks of the Summer Holidays and during the Whitsun half term, Residential Camps provide a perfect opportunity for children to have fun and adventure in a safe and caring environment. Specifically for 8-14 year olds, each of the different camps has a packed programme of activities to keep the children entertained and with the addition of some new camps this year, we think there’s something for everyone!

Each of the camps include the following:

  • From Sunday afternoon to Friday evening, a programme packed with activities in the chosen camp
  • Evening activities including camp fire, disco and wide games
  • Camping under canvas in one of our tent villages in 6-8 person frame tents
  • Healthy, balanced home cooked meals
  • Fully qualified, conscientious and understanding staff available 24 hours a day
  • Each camp is part of the Residential Camp experience, with all children meeting up each night for evening activities and to share their stories from the day!

ACTION CAMP

Action Camp children join in with their respective age groups at our ever popular and exciting Daycamps during the day. A typical week for the 8 - 10 year olds includes Climbing, Raft Building and Den Building just for starters! The 11 - 14 year olds get to try out Burma Bridge, Towers High Ropes Challenge, Sailing and lots more! The fun continues into the evening with more games and activities.

ECO CAMP - NEW FOR 2008!

Pond dipping, Minibeast hunting, Bat walks and more! This eco themed week is spent watching, measuring and documenting the ecological wonders of Fairthorne's diverse grounds. Add in a couple of adventurous activities such as Aerial Runway and you have the perfectly balanced week.

DRAMA CAMP - NEW FOR 2008!

Drama Camp is something a bit different for tomorrow's stars! Have a go at script writing, choreography, acting and producing. Work up to a final performance at the end of a week providing a perfect finale!

EQUESTRIAN CAMP

Children of all abilities are welcome to take part in what is perhaps our most popular camp. The week includes lessons on grooming, tacking up and stable management as well as riding lessons. Beginners are taught the basics in the safety of the riding school, while more experienced and confident riders are given the chance to ride around the farm grounds with safety, as always, of paramount importance.

WATER CAMP

This popular week of water based fun involves developing skills in Sailing, Canoeing, Kayaking & Power Boating. 2008 also sees the introduction of our fantastic Water Walkers! We make the most of our diverse grounds by offering sessions on the Lake as well as the River Hamble. There will even be the chance to build your own boat! All abilities welcome.

Dates

Residential camp runs for 5 nights each week from Sunday to Friday evening.

Arrive ~ Sunday at 4pm Depart ~ Friday at 6pm

The Big Weekend!

Extend your stay at the start or end of each camp or bolt two camps together with the addition of The Big Weekend. The extra 2 days from Friday to Sunday include something a bit different - bivouac for the night, cook on an open fire and choose from a range of adventure activities during the day! The cost for The Big Weekend is £80 or FREE if you are bolting two weeks together.

Staff

All Staff, whether recruited in the UK or internationally, are selected for their patience, understanding and conscientious approach to caring for children and young people. All staff working on the Fairthorne Manor estate are checked by the Criminal Records Bureau and all references have been taken up to ensure their suitability for our centre. Our staff strive to be excellent role models for all children attending camp. They aim to enhance time spent at Fairthorne with their enthusiasm, commitment and passion for fun.

Accommodation

Children sleep under canvas in one of our tent villages. Camping is in large 6 - 8 person frame tents, which have wooden floors. Campers are provided with a roll mat and a pillow but will need to bring a pillow slip. (Please see kit list for a full list of items) Camp leaders sleep in tents adjacent to the children’s and are available throughout the night to offer assistance if needed

Open Evenings

Each summer we hold Daycamp Open Evenings, allowing parents and children to have a short tour of the activities and meet some of the instructors. The evenings run for an hour from 1800 on Tuesday 6th May and 1900 on Monday 9th June and Monday 7th July. Please call to book your place.

Thursday Night Event

This is a chance for parents to see what their children have done during their week. Starting at 7.15pm, parents can enjoy songs and sketches performed by the children. Audience participation is encouraged and Cocoa and hot dogs are served at the end of the evening

If your child has a medical condition or requires additional support please contact the children’s Support Team Co-ordinator to discuss requirements on 01489 785228 at least 4 weeks in advance of your child’s stay.
