Senior Staff Team
Chris has been with the YMCA since 1986, initially employed as a project leader with the Community Programme and has held a number of other roles with the YMCA. Chris is the founding Chief Executive of YMCA Fairthorne Group which was formed in 2002. The period since 2002 has seen many changes and a number of mergers with local YMCAs and other charities. Chris is driven by the YMCA vision of communities where children, young people and families belong, contribute and thrive. He is involved with the YMCA at national and international level and has led and contributed to a number of high profile projects as well as chairing the YMCA Chief Executives’ Network. Chris is married with three children who lead increasingly independent lives; in his spare time he enjoys sailing and rowing with family and friends.
Peter joined the organisation in 1992 and progressed to become the Programme Manager based at Fairthorne Manor. In his current position, Peter provides support to all managers across the organisation and leads on quality and development. Peter is responsible for Safeguarding and Child Protection and our organisation’s representative for Ofsted. Achievements include co-founding the National Young Carers Festival which over the past fifteen years has become the UK’s largest youth participation event. The annual festival allows 1500 young carers, to have a break. In 2008 Peter became a member of a programme development group at the National Institute for Clinical Health and Excellence (NICE). This group developed the national guidance for increasing physical activity in children. Peter has worked with YMCA England to develop a national strategy for sports, health and fitness and most recently has worked with the Youth Sports Trust to develop a new early years physical activity resource. Peter has a 1st class honours degree in Professional Development from Surrey University as well as a Diploma in Countryside Recreation from Merrist Wood college in Surrey. Peter is a NSPCC trained safeguarding facilitator.
Jim Hooper Central Support Director
Jim lives in Hampshire and has been with the YMCA since 2003, experiencing great change as the Sales Manager before progressing to Central Support Team Director. In his current role Jim is responsible for sales, marketing, finance, human resources and IT. He has spent the majority of his career in sales, predominantly in the travel industry before developing his skills in other fields at the YMCA.
Jim has a young family, with both of his children successful graduates of Fairthorne Manor Nursery, avid fans of Daycamps and the YMCA Family Park and Campsite. He has a passion for sport and fitness and is a real advocate of children learning in an outdoors environment.
Sally Arscott Area Director
Sally has been an area Director at the YMCA since 2006. Sally has shaped much of the growth of our organisation, including the formation of the Family Park, taking on new areas of work following mergers and establishing new pre-schools and youth work. Prior to the YMCA, Sally worked in London establishing youth and community development programmes in urban inner city areas, operating in both the voluntary and statutory sectors. She has a business degree and has always had the task of ensuring long term financial sustainability of programmes as well as impact. She has been a trustee of a range of education charities and is currently a governor at a local primary school.
Sally is married with two young boys and loves nothing better than being in the outdoors, whether playing in the woods, out on bikes or camping and toasting marshmallows over a fire.
Peter Scaife Estates Director
Peter now lives in Hampshire and previously worked overseas in management roles in the sailing industry for Falcon and Sunsail, before joining YMCA Fairthorne Group in 2001 as Operations Manager. He then took a role of Projects Manager and is now currently Estates Director. Peter is responsible for the maintenance of all of the organisations owned and leased properties.
Peter still has a passion for sailing in his spare time, and enjoys ski-ing and the outdoors.
Emma Corina Area Director
Emma has been Area Director for YMCA Fairthorne Group since 2006. She began her career in the live music industry but developed a keen interest in understanding how organisations affect social change. She has since worked for a number of consultancies specialising in supporting not-for-profit organisations. Emma is passionate about enabling children and young people to achieve their true potential, regardless of circumstance, and has a strong focus in her role on developing new services. Outside work Emma is chair of Community Action Isle of Wight and Isle of Wight’s Voluntary Sector Forum. Emma lives in the Isle of Wight and in her spare time is a keen walker, gardener and motorbike rider.

Andrew Simpson Area Director
Andrew is the Area Director for Southampton covering housing, early years learning, youth services and is based at George Williams House. He has been with the YMCA since March 2013 after a varied career in housing for over 20 years working for local authorities, housing associations and charities. He enjoys working in challenging environments and is pleased to do so in an organisation that values staff and young people and provides the opportunities for development. He has always lived in Southampton with his wife and two children. Andrew is a keen gardener, enthusiastic cyclist and the sole vegetarian on the senior management team.
