Forest School Approach
Fairthorne Manor Nursery takes full advantage of the 111 acre grounds within which it's set. Staff and parents have embraced the Forest School approach to nursery education this has contributed to the achievement of an 'outstanding' grading from OFSTED in 2009. Typical activities at Fairthorne Manor nursery include;
- Walking through the woods
- Splashing in puddles (armed with wellie boots of course!)
Watching for birds from the bird hide- Exploring the woodland garden
- Growing plants in our allotment
- Learning about fire safety around the campfire
- Pond dipping
- Bug hunting
We firmly believe that children of all ages benefit immeasurably from spending as much time as possible in the great outdoors and we are lucky enough to be able to offer this.
Play Based Learning
A play based curriculum is enhanced by high standards of staff, equipment and resources, with daily activities based on the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This is divided into four areas of learning;
- A unique child
- Positive relationships
- Enabling development
- Learning and development
These cover all of the learning areas;
- Communication, language and literacy
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the World
- Physical development
- Creative development
All of our indoor and outdoor activities are aimed at developing children's self esteem, confidence and social skills through the use of the above strategies.
