Water Camp

Water Camp is one of our most popular Themed Camps, offering children the chance to make the most of Fairthorne’s sheltered lake and access to the beautiful River Hamble.

Suitable for all abilities, Water Camp can include kayaking, sailing, canoeing, raft and coracle building and our legendary X-stream walk. Although we don’t expect every child to be a fantastic swimmer, a certain amount of water confidence is required as children spend much of the week on the water.

Additional help for parents

To make busy schedules easier we offer the following extras:

Stay overnight or longer

Children can extend the fun of all of our camps by joining one of our residential options:

  • sleepover – children on Water Camp have the option of a sleepover during every Daycamp period.
  • Big Weekends – children aged 8 years and over can enjoy a 2 night stay from Friday to Sunday on selected weekends in the summer.
  • Residential Camp – children aged 8 years and over have the option of a 5 night stay at Easter or throughout the summer.

When do they run?

Water Camp is offered on the following dates in 2017:

  • Easter week 1: 10th April -13th April
  • Easter week 2: 18th April -21st April
  • Whitsun: 30th May-2nd June

Challenge by choice

Many of the children that visit us are ready for greater challenges and the programme of activities allows them to fulfil their potential. Those who are not quite so eager will be sensitively encouraged to push themselves as far as they are happy to.  Fairthorne Manor exercises a ‘challenge by choice’ policy, whereby no individual will be pressured to participate in an activity they are not ready for.

Children who require additional support

If your child requires additional support to access our schemes, please visit our support page for further information, including details on potential funding for buddies.

Through membership of the YMCA Community, you will have the chance to feel a greater sense of ownership and belonging, as well as enjoying exclusive member events, discounts and early booking discounts.  For more information visit our Membership page.

Children will enjoy a whole range of water activities, including kayaking, canoeing, sailing, bell boating. They will also have the chance to build and paddle their own coracle and raft. Children new to water activities will be taught basic skills, whilst those more experienced will be able to enhance and practice their skills as well as learning some new ones.

View our sample programme for more information on the structure of the week.
