YMCA Nursery Portsea provides a welcoming, safe and secure space for children to play and explore.

Our staff

Our experienced and qualified staff team provide a welcoming, safe and exciting environment where a child’s development and happiness are our primary focus.  The staff team provide enhanced support for the families in receipt of 2 year old funding, including ensuring additional services are accessed.

Our setting

The lovely indoor space and gardens ensure children access a range of activities enabling them to learn through exploration and play as well as staying safe and healthy. Set in a modern purpose-built building in a quiet cul-de-sac conveniently located off Queen Street, the nursery provides excellent year round childcare and support for the local community, with funded places available.

Our resources are just what your child needs for their development, including physical activity, creative, messy and imaginative play.

For service families, we  provide enhanced support by providing a variety of ‘keep in contact’ activities, when one of the parents is deployed.  These activities ensure the absent parent and the child keep in regular contact.

The nursery has two 2 light and airy rooms in a modern building, separated into the following:

Babies (0-2 years)

The baby room provides a safe and nurturing environment, with a full range of resources and activities providing children with learning and development experiences.
In our playroom the children have access to a variety of toys which are stored at their level, so they can access them freely. Our messy area provides lots of different textures to explore, and sometimes taste, as well as sand and water.
Our regular mark-making activities encourage all of the children to enjoy getting messy! We extend our activities into our lovely safe garden, where children can enjoy fresh air and explore the outdoors.

Toddlers (2years – 3 years)

In the toddler room children can enjoy a variety of activities from story books and construction to a home corner and painting, covering all the EYFS areas of learning.
In our lovely garden there is the opportunity for large mark making and drawing as well as exploring planted areas. Our aim is to help children to explore and expand their experience to their fullest potential.

Pre-school (3years – 4 years)

In the preschool room children enjoy a large indoor space enabling them to take part in lots of different activities of their choosing which meet all the EYFS areas of learning. Our garden allows for free flow and lots of active play on bikes and balance equipment, plus there’s the opportunity to do some planting and growing in our large wooden planters.
We have culinary delights-a-plenty with cooking activities, and a range of art and crafts on offer.

Feedback from our customers is very important to us, as we seek to improve the service we offer.  Here are some comments from our parents –

Staff are always willing to help with any worries, and always make time to talk.  The children are well cared for and always come out smiling.  I like the fact that the nursery is very local to home and my eldest son’s school“.

Staff are friendly and welcoming“.
