Paddles Up kayaking

Paddles Up Kayaking

Paddles Up is the perfect opportunity for adults and children to try kayaking for the first time or hone existing skills. So put down the iPods and computer games and enjoy the great outdoors with your child!

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to propel yourself smoothly through the water in a kayak, come along and give it a go on our sheltered lake!  Our qualified instructors will be present to cover water safety and offer a few tips; please note this is a fun session rather then structured training in kayaking.

Paddles Up is ideal for children aged 7 years and over and adults of any age! We have a limited number of sit on kayaks, so if you’re child is aged 2-7 years you can get in a boat with them depending on their size (they must be able to fit safely into our child buoyancy aids).

See the tabs below for further information and some pictures of one of our sessions.

Due to poor light our last session of the 2016 season will be on Thursday 6th October

Price & booking

In 2016, Paddles Up is just £8 per person (same price for adult and child) – if you’re a YMCA Member, you’ll save 10%! Not a member? Find out more about our membership.

To book, call us on 01489 785228. Places are limited to a maximum of 36 people per session, so make sure you book in advance.

What to wear & bring with you

Once we’ve been through a few basics and a safety briefing, you’ll be spending all of your time on the water so wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting wet or a wetsuit if you have one.  After the session, we have some nice warm showers at our Family Park reception – why not stay for a drink?  We’ll provide the rest of the equipment that you need, including kayak, paddle and buoyancy aid.

Through membership of the YMCA Community, you will have the chance to feel a greater sense of ownership and belonging, as well as enjoying exclusive member events, discounts and early booking discounts.  For more information visit our Membership page.
