IOW Daycamps
Daycamps at Winchester House in Shanklin are available for 4 - 14 year olds during every school holiday. We also ran a playscheme for disabled children for the first time between 10-28 August 2009, funded by Isle of Wight Council through the Aiming High for Disabled Children Initiative (see below for further information).
Location
Winchester House is a beautiful Victorian building set in large grounds on the cliff top overlooking Sandown Bay and immediately above the long sandy beach of Hope Bay.
School Holiday Activities
Winchester House Daycamps are the newest addition to the Daycamp family. Launched in 2005, the popularity of the scheme is growing fast as the word spreads.
Run by our caring, enthusiastic play leaders, the fun never stops! The well equipped grounds provide a range of activities including;
- Giant sand pit
- Petanque pit
- Drama
- Art
- Sports and games
The fantastic location just above the beach means that trips out to the beach for some sand castle building is often on the cards too!
Choice for Children
At each Daycamp, children are given the choice of which activities they would like to do.

Playscheme for Children with disabilities and additional needs
Following the enthusiastic uptake in August 2009, the playscheme is back at a cost of just £10, running daily from 1000-1500 between 15-19 February 2010.
We cater for children with disabilities and complex needs, under the Aim High for Disabled Children agenda, and can provide one to one support where needed.Activities offered are flexibly planned around the needs and interests of the children we have on each day. Each child has a free choice of activity from those on offer, and we try to meet any requests for activities if possible.
We have:
- A large playroom divided into zoned activity areas: e.g. art and craft; soft play; imaginative play - toy cars, building blocks, dolls, play shop etc; floor and board games
- A sunny conservatory designated as quiet area: space for reading, group singing plus sensory 'den' for individual chill-out and sensory play
- A large grassed area at rear of playroom, visible from room, with paddling pool and space for active play, ball games and team games
- A grassed area overlooked by conservatory, with sandpit, paddling pool and path for ride on toys
- Toilets, including disabled facility are just across the corridor from playroom and a changing area for personal care needs in curtained off and secluded area.
