Fairthorne Group

The Bursary Fund

The wonderful facilities at Fairthorne Manor provide life-changing experiences for thousands of children every year. Unfortunately, not every child is lucky enough to have the opportunity to experience the Fairthorne Magic, and so in 2008 we launched our Bursary Scheme to give free Daycamp places to children who deserve a place in recognition of their achievements and the challenges they have dealt with over the past year.

Children who Benefit

Whether affected by trauma, bereavement, bullying, physical or learning disabilities, sick or disabled parents or a wide range of other disadvantages, some young lives are perhaps more challenging than others.

Often it is these children who benefit the most from the positive, uplifting experience of Daycamps and the life-enhancing activities we offer, yet often it is these children who do not get the opportunity to go.

Meet Olivia….
Olivia* is 12 and a young carer. Her mum has Multiple Sclerosis and her younger brother is autistic. With her dad working long hours, the care of her mum and brother falls to Olivia. She loves her family and wants to help them but she can’t always fit in her school work and she can never go out with her friends. YMCA Fairthorne Manor offers school holiday Daycamps that for just £100 would give Olivia the break she needs, a chance to forget her problems and just enjoy being a child for a while.

Meet Sam…
Sam* is 5 years old and was awarded a bursary place on the pilot scheme in 2007. His home life was rife with troubles and he was passed between relatives to keep him safe. Despite his difficulties at home, Sam was polite, chatty and well behaved. The week at Daycamps had an extremely positive effect on Sam and he said there was nothing he didn’t enjoy. His carer told us that ‘his week at Fairthorne gave him lots of new experiences and contributed towards a very happy Summer for him’.

Every Little Helps

You can help these children and others like them by sponsoring a child today. The average cost of a Daycamp bursary place is £100 and every penny donated will support a child in need.

Every donation counts, whatever the amount. If all of our Daycamp customers donated just £1 each, we would be able to give 140 less fortunate children an action packed day of fun and adventure at Fairthorne Manor in 2009.
