St Mary's Day Nursery, Newport Isle of Wight

St Mary’s Day Nursery is a popular and friendly 86-place day nursery offering places for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. The Nursery is located within the grounds of St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

The nursery is within a modern purpose built building and is equipped to a very high standard. A play-based curriculum is offered and is enhanced by a high standard of resources, providing a range of opportunities for indoor and outdoor curriculum and adventures. There are specially equipped areas for each unit - babies, tweenies and pre-school - with age-appropriate activities for children’s play and development needs.

Outdoors there are play gardens for each age group and children also enjoy walks to the duck pond, the secret garden and the on site wooded areas. Our approach is to develop children’s self-esteem, confidence and interactive (social) skills and encourage environmental responsibility.

We work in partnership with parents by offering opportunities to discuss your child’s development and needs. We have an informal key worker system in place, and appreciate the importance of communication with parents/carers. A home book system has been devised to enable information to go backwards and forwards between home and Nursery.

Spaces are subject to availability and a sessional-basis waiting list is in operation with priority given to NHS personnel. The Day Nursery is also part of the Neighbourhpod Nursery Initiative. A percentage of our places are reserved for parents living in certain areas of the Island. For some age groups places may be available straight away. Prospective parents are welcome to arrange an appointment to view the nursery prior to registering their child.
