Consultation

Our skilled and experienced youth workers and children’s activity leaders have got lots of expertise when it comes to active consultation with children and young people. Our consultation projects include:

Youth Councils in Gosport and Havant – YMCA Fairthorne Group facilitates the youth councils (on behalf of Hampshire County Youth Service), involving young people in making recommendations and decisions which feed in to the democratic processes of the local authorities in these areas.

Young Carers Festival – An annual weekend mass consultation event organised jointly by YMCA Fairthorne Group and the Children’s Society, involving 1500 young people in discussing the issues affecting their lives and how the government could provide more support.

Empowering Children and Young People Project – This project is about children and young people having their say and making a difference in their own communities. At the start of the project, 20 Portsmouth children came together with senior managers from social services, health and education to talk about what is important to them, and this led to eight strategic outcomes for children being developed. These ideas were communicated to managers and practitioners across the city via a video produced by the children, and has been highly acclaimed.
